Akali Minister quits

CHANDIGARH, JAN. 15. In continued rumblings within the ruling Akali Dal in Punjab over nominations for the next month's Assembly polls, another member of the Prakash Singh Badal Ministry, Mohinder Kaur Josh, resigned today.

Ms. Josh, the Minister of State for Family Welfare, announced her resignation at Hoshiarpur after the Shiromani Akali Dal decided to leave Sham Chaurasi Assembly constituency, from where she was elected in 1997, to its poll ally the Bahujan Samaj Morcha.

Ms. Josh told reporters that she would contest from Sham Chaurasi as an independent candidate.
