Jayalalithaa to contest from Andipatti
By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 16. The AIADMK general secretary, Jayalalithaa, today announced her candidature for the Andipatti Assembly byelection scheduled for February 21. However, she refrained from announcing the party nominees for Saidapet and Vaniyambadi, where the elections have been put off.

`Replace officials'

Our New Delhi Legal Correspondent reports:

The Election Commission today rejected the DMK's demand for postponing the Andipatti by-election on the ground that the allegation of electoral malpractice there had not been substantiated.

It directed the Tamil Nadu Government to replace the Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Sampath, and officials involved in the revision of electoral rolls in Saidapet and Vaniyambadi constituencies on or before February 23 and submit a compliance report.
