DMK chief seeks President's intervention
By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 18. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, today sought the intervention of the President, K.R. Narayanan, in view of the ``grave threat posed'' to the democratic system in Tamil Nadu.

``The Election Commission's decision to permit election in Andipatti without correcting the fraudulent voter's list has come in as a rude shock to all those who believe in democracy,'' he said in a three-page letter to Mr. Narayanan.

The ``DMK might be forced to rethink'' on contesting ``in this farce called election'' if ``the election is going to be reduced to a mere number game that can be manipulated according to the wishes of the ruling party in the State'', he said.
