Letters to the Editor
Pakistan and China
Sir, Your Editorial `Towards a realistic engagement' (Jan. 17) is timely. Years ago America helped the Taliban to fight the erstwhile USSR. Only now has it realised how dangerous it is to help Muslim fundamentalists even for a supposedly noble cause of containing communism.
In the same way, keeping in mind the border problems with India and the latter's perceived support to the Dalai Lama, China is helping Pakistan, a nation harbouring terrorists to fight against India. The days are not too far for China to face Muslim terrorists in its northwest. Like Kashmir and Chechnya, the terrorists trained in Pakistan are going to fight China, infiltrating the local Muslims in the area. Only then will China realise its shortsighted policy of helping Pakistan which, in effect, is helping Muslim terrorists worldwide.
