Prisoner with AIDS commits suicide
By Our Staff Reporter
Rajahmundry, Jan. 21. P.Srinivasa Rao (32) of Atreyapuram, an undertrial in the Central Prison here, committed suicide on Monday by cutting his abdomen with a blade. He was suspected of having AIDS.
According to the superintendent of the prison, P. Mahendra Reddy, while making the normal rounds around 5 am on Monday, the warden heard some moans from the cell of Srinivasa Rao--he was kept in a separate cell because of his violent temperament--and found him in a pool of blood. The bleeding prisoner died in the medical van outside the prison.
It may be recalled that Srinivasa Rao, on the suspicion that he had contacted AIDS, had axed to death his wife, son, parents and sister a few months back.
"I am the only bread earner. In my absence my family members would be forced to beg. I cannot bear that hence I killed them and wanted to commit suicide", he told some officials in the prison.
Srinivas is stated to have used a blade which was given to the barber for shaving prisoners.
