11 massacred in Poonch
By Shujaat Bukhari

JAMMU, JAN. 21. Eight children were among 11 persons shot dead in a shocking incident in Bara Mora village of Poonch district. Police said it was result of a family feud.

Even as earlier reports suggested that militants were behind the killings, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rajouri-Poonch range, S.S. Bijral, told The Hindu that it was not a militant act. He said that a gang of four entered the house of Zakir Hussain and Mohammad Zaman during the night and fired indiscriminately killing 11 people. Three others were injured.

Mr. Bijral confirmed that three people Mohammad Anwar, Mohammad Sharief and Mohammad Taj have been arrested in this connection and the preliminary investigations have established their involvement in the killing. Another accused, Mohammad Nazir, who earlier worked with police as SPO, is absconding.
