Stalemate continues in NIMS
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JAN. 22. An attempt by the Health Minister, N. Janardhan Reddy, to resolve the seven-day-old strike by the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) failed to make a headway on Tuesday.
Dr. Reddy, who visited NIMS in connection with the capping ceremony of nurses, invited RDA representatives for informal talks and urged them to call off their agitation against the hike in tuition fee. This would create a congenial atmosphere for sympathetic consideration of the doctors' demands, he said.
The residents were, however, in no mood to end the strike.
As the hour-long discussions were not fruitful, it was decided to meet again on January 25 to find a solution.
Meanwhile, the resident doctors ran a free out-patient clinic in NIMS where they examined 248 persons.
