I wanted to teach Advani a lesson: Paramhans

KANPUR, JAN. 22. The Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas president, Mahant Ramachandra Paramhans, today said he had boycotted the flagging off of the ``Sant Chetavani Yatra'' in Ayodhya on Monday protesting the ``obtrusive'' security there and ``to teach the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani, a lesson.''

``I remained in Ayodhya to teach the Union Home Minister, Mr. Advani, a lesson for implementing many unwanted security restrictions causing inconvenience to visiting devotees at Ayodhya,'' the mahant, who joined the `yatra' here, told presspersons. He said he had no dispute with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International president, Ashok Singhal.

Earlier, addressing the `yatra' at Phoolbagh here, he said the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya would start by March 12 irrespective of any hurdle.

``I will not care for any Government action or wait for court judgment, but will act according to what was decided by the `dharamcharyas' for the construction of the Ram temple, which will start by all means and no one can stop it,'' he said.

He appealed to all political parties to come forward and help construction of the temple.

Asked whether the date would be deferred from March 12 as was done earlier, the mahant said, ``earlier, the construction material was not ready, now I don't see any reason for deferring the construction.''

When asked to give a definite date, he quipped: ``I had not even given a date for the demolition of the Babri Masjid.''

He said he would meet the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, in Delhi before January 27 and remind him about his promise that all hurdles for the construction of the Ram temple would be resolved before March 12. ``I am not begging the Prime Minister to construct the temple.''

`Yagya' postponed

Mr. Singhal, in his speech, announced postponment of the ``poornaahuti yagya'', scheduled to begin on February 18, in view of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. However, no power could stop the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya after March 12 next, he said.

The Centre should clear the dispute by bringing in a legislation in Parliament. It would take about two years to complete the construction work, he added.

Criticising the statement of the Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, demanding a ban on the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and the Shishu Mandirs and lifting of the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India, Mr. Singhal said, ``such statements should be coming only from a traitor.``
