SC `no' to stay TANSI verdict
By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. With the Supreme Court declining to stay the judgment of the Madras High Court acquitting the AIADMK general secretary, Jayalalithaa, in the TANSI cases, decks were cleared for her to contest the Andipatti Assembly byelections.

The apex court, while issuing notices to Ms. Jayalalithaa, her close aide, Sasikala, the Tamil Nadu Government and three other accused in the cases, also rejected the plea of the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, that the court should pass an interim order restraining Ms. Jayalalithaa from holding any public office till the disposal of the petitions.
