`CBI has not got extradition request'
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it had not received any request from the authorities in Islamabad requesting the extradition of Pakistani nationals wanted in criminal cases in that country.
``We have received no request from Islamabad on extradition of wanted Pakistani criminals. We have screened through the entire list of our 7,000 Interpol Red Corner notices. There is no India specific request from Pakistan which is pending with us,'' the CBI Director, Mr. P.C. Sharma, told reporters after meeting the visiting Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director, Robert S. Mueller.
Mr. Sharma's categorical statement assumes significance after Islamabad said last week that it would also hand over a list of wanted criminals to New Delhi which had allegedly found shelter in India. The External Affairs Minister, Jaswant Singh, said on Monday that India would quickly extradite any Pakistani fugitive in case it was asked while asserting that Islamabad should not hold up handover of the terrorists named in New Delhi's list of 20.
PTI reports:
The CBI today handed over to the FBI a list of 22 terrorists, criminals and economic offenders believed to be in the United States. The list, comprising some Khalistani propagators wanted in India, was handed over by the CBI Director, to the visiting FBI Chief, Robert Mueller, during a 30-minute meeting here. The CBI has secured a red corner notice against these people.
