JD(U) hopes to get another seat
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 22. The Janata Dal (United), a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance which has been allotted 13 seats in next month's Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections by the BJP, is hopeful of bagging an extra seat. The `Janata Parivar' outfits have been allotted 29 seats, (JD-13, Samata and Lok Janshakti 8 each), in the 403-seat Assembly. The JD(U) has promised to campaign both for the BJP and other allies in U.P., the party spokesman, Mohan Prakash said.
He said the JD(U) staked claim on seats ``after making a realistic assessment'' of its strength, including some seats in areas considered to be stronghold of the Samajwadi Party, which the JD(U) plans to challenge. Among its candidates, the JD(U) has fielded two close relatives of expelled SP MP, Ramakant Yadav, and its lone MLA in existing House, S.C. Srivastva.
