TRC merges with Congress
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 23. The Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress (TRC) today merged with the Congress party. The Vazhapadi. K. Ramamurthy-led party returned to the fold after a eight-year break with the Congress.
Though the merger had been on the cards for quite sometime, it was formalised today. Ramamurthy alongwith his supporters was admitted into the party this morning by Sonia Gandhi.
Welcoming him back into the party, AICC Secretary incharge of Tamil Nadu, Ramesh Chennithala said, Mr. Ramamurthy's return would help the party and strengthen it at the grassroots in the State. Also present were party spokesperson, Jaipal Reddy, and TNCC chief, E.V.K.S. Elangovan.
Speaking to newspersons, Mr. Ramamurthy said he was looking forward to the day for a longtime and was happy to return home.
He also denied reports that the TNCC chief had objected to being readmitted into the party. ``I had the privilege of serving the party alongwith his father and grand father and will be happy to work under him.''
