India beats S. Africa, enters Super League
AUCKLAND, JAN. 23. India, Australia, New Zealand surged to the top of their groups, and assured themselves of a Super League berth, with convincing wins in round-robin matches at the under-19 World Cup cricket tournament on Wednesday.
India, the defending champion, claimed its second bonus point in as many matches when it beat South Africa by 71 runs and now leads Group A with 10 points, ahead of South Africa with five.
Batting first, India scored 227 for seven in its 50 overs, thanks to an Chandan Madan's unbeaten 105 (126m, 8 x 4, 2 x 6). South Africa was all out for 156 in 43.3 overs with Ryan McLaren providing a moderate top score of 33.
New Zealand completed its group program with a six- wicket win over Namibia which left it with 12 points at the top of Group B. England leads Group C with nine points after its six- wicket win over Papua New Guinea. Pakistan is placed second with five points.
Australia heads Group B, based in Dunedin, after a 42- run win over the West Indies and the win gave Australia a second bonus point.

Group A: India 227 for eight in 50 overs (Chandan Madan 105 not out, Y Gnaneswara Rao 25, Mohnish Mishra 25) bt South Africa 156 in 43.4 overs at Auckland.
Group B: Namibia 201 for five in 50 overs (Burton van Rooi 62, Hugo Ludik 49 not out, Tobias Verwey 30 not out) lost to New Zealand 203 for four in 36.3 overs (Neil Broom 85, Ross Taylor 58 not out, Stephen Murdoch 30) at Chrustchurch.
Group C: Papua New Guinea 222 for six in 50 overs (Frank Joseph 92, William Mula 28, Christopher Amini 58) lost to England 223 for four in 28 overs (Nick Compton 58, Kadeer Ali 73, Nicky Peng 41, Kyle Hogg 28) at Christchurch.
Group D: Australia 200 in 49.2 overs (George Bailey 39, Mark Cosgrove 27, Beau Casson 28, Ryan Nurse five for 28, Narsingh Deonarine three for 28) bt West Indies 158 in 44.5 overs (Dwayne Bravo 29, Tonito Willett 34, Lorenzo Ingram 25; Doherty three for 24, Casson three for 48) at Dunedin.
