Tushar Liberhan destroys Prabowo
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN. 23. Tushar Liberhan continued to assert his potential as he sped past the fifth-seeded Imanuel Prabowo of Indonesia for the loss of a solitary game in the quarterfinal of the grade `III' ITF junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Wednesday.

The sweet-stroking Chandigarh lad, who is quickly adding maturity to his game, will be tested in the next round by fellow trainee, Chatwinder Singh. Chatwinder found the energy to quell the challenge from Pongkunsab Natapong of Thailand who had shown the door to the second-seeded Rishi Behl.

Dor Wertheimer of Israel did well to subdue Somdev Dev Varman in straight sets, and can fancy his chances against Saurabh Singh, who did well to get past qualifier Lior Barbash of Israel.

The picture was similar in the girls section, as Isha Lakhani, Kartiki Bhat and Sanaa Bhambri, each of them capable of winning the title, grabbed three of the four semifinal spots.

The top-seeded Isha was tested thoroughly by Wen Hsih Hsu of Chinese Taipei, but the gutsy Indian left-hander pulled through comfortably in the decider. Isha will face the challenge from another Taipei girl, Yung Jan Chan in the semifinal.

Kartiki overwhelmed Sandri Gangotri without dropping a game, but would have the unenviable task of crossing swords with the second-seeded Sanaa Bhambri.

The results (quarterfinals):

Boys: Dor Wertheimer (Isr) bt Somdev Dev Varman 6-3, 6-4; Saurabh Singh bt Lior Barbash (Isr) 6-1, 6-1; Tushar LIberhan bt Imanuel Prabowo (Ina) 6-1, 6-0; Chatwinder Singh bt Pongkunsab Natapong (Tha) 6-1, 6-4.

Girls: Isha Lakhani bt WenHsih Hsu (Tpe) 6-2, 3-6, 6-1; Yung Jan Chan (Tpe) bt Vandana Murali 6-3, 6-4; Kartiki Bhat bt Sandri Gangotri 6-0, 6-0; Sanaa Bhambri bt I- Hsuan Hwang (Tpe) 6-4, 6-2.
