THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 24. The State CPI has begun preparations for the 18th Party Congress, to be held here from March 26 to 31, with the State leadership calling upon cadres to strive for struggles against the policies of the BJP Government at the Centre and the Antony Government in the State.
Addressing a convention of party workers, held here today constitute an organising committee for the party congress, the former Chief Minister, P.K. Vasudevan Nair, pointed out that the Antony Government in Kerala was implementing the very same policies as those of the BJP Government at the Centre.
The BJP Government, he said, was pursuing policies aimed at safeguarding the interests of the capitalist and communal fascist forces in the country. The policies of the BJP Government had caused immense misery to the people. The move against the rights of the State Government employees and teachers by the Antony Government was part of the same policies, he added.

Chitharanjan, MP, the State assistant secretary, Pannian Ravindran, the former Law Minister, E. Chandrasekharan Nair, and the party State executive member, K. Govinda Pillai, addressed the convention.
The conference elected a 5001-member organising committee with a 351-member executive committee with Mr. Vasudevan Nair as chairman and the AITUC State general secretary, C. Divakaran, as general secretary.
