Enron chief steps down
By Sridhar Krishnaswami

WASHINGTON, JAN. 24.Kenneth Lay has stepped down as the Chairman and CEO of Enron Corporation. He, however, will remain on its Board of Directors.

Mr. Lay and other senior Enron executives have been pounded with questions in the last few weeks on whether they had sold their stocks for a profit even while asking their employees to hold on - a charge that is being denied.

The energy giant may have spread its political donations on both sides of the aisle, but it has very special ties to the Republican Party and the President, George Bush.
