'Faces of attackers on CCTV footage'
KOLKATA, JAN. 24. The city police investigating the attack on the American Center has obtained vital clues from the video footage of the closed circuit TV camera, which was on at the time of the strike.
Top police officials viewed the footage at a special screening arranged by the American Center today. After the screening, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective department), Somen Mitra, said, ``We have got several clues from the footage.''
The footage had accomplished three vital tasks, a top police official said. The camera not only briefly focussed on the faces of the attackers, but the frame-by-frame sequence - lasting for about 40 seconds - also showed the motorcycle used and its number plate as well as the reaction of the policemen.
Bomb threats
A spate of bomb threats today caused panic and kept the police on tenterhooks. Bomb disposal squad personnel rushed to the Hong Kong building at B.B.D. Bag, the commercial hub of the city, after an anonymous caller threatened that a bomb placed in the precincts was likely to go off in the afternoon. The four-storey building was evacuated but nothing was found after an hour's search, police said. Similar calls were received from the CTC depot in the Dharamtalla area and the showroom of a shoe company at Rabindra Sarani but were also found to be hoaxes. - PTI
