Sensex sheds 25 points
MUMBAI
JAN. 25.
Led by Tisco, equities moved further downwards pushing the Sensex by another 25 points at close in lacklustre activity on the Bombay Stock Exchange due to selling pressure.
The BSE benchmark 30-share index opened slightly up at 3358.20 and later fluctuated in a restricted range between 3366 and 3326.02 before ending at 3332.30 against yesterday's close of 3357.79, netting a fall of 25.49 points. The BSE-100 index also moved down further by 8.90 points to 1591.22 from 1600.12.
Though there was continuous flow of encouraging corporate news with some Indian companies posting impressive growth in the net profit for the third quarter, a sharp fall of 73 per cent in Q3 net profit of Tisco and lower-than-expected Q2 financial results of G. A. Cements made speculators and investors cautious about the future trend. The activity remained at a low ebb in view of consistent net sales by foreign institutional investors.
