President hosts R-Day reception

NEW DELHI, JAN. 26. The President, K. R. Narayanan, and the First Lady, Usha Narayanan, hosted a reception in the Mughal Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan here this evening as part of the Republic Day celebrations.

The dignitaries at the function, including the Union Ministers, diplomats and senior officials, were introduced to the Mauritian President, Cassem Uteem, and his wife, Lorna, who were the chief guests at the parade.

The Vice-President, Krishan Kant, and his wife, Suman Kant, the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the former President, R. Venkataraman, former Prime Ministers, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and I. K. Gujral, the Home Minister, L. K. Advani, the Law Minister, Arun Jaitley, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi, and several MPs were present. The former Air Chief, Arjan Singh, who was yesterday made the first-ever Marshal of the Indian Air Force, was also present.
