Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Indian diplomacy

Sir, — Nothing does a better PR job for Pakistan than Indian diplomacy. We take great pains to convince the world that while it is Pakistan that is making all the conciliatory moves, India couldn't care less about reducing tension on the Indo-Pak. border. We snub the U.N. Secretary-General by telling him that he is unwelcome in India while Pakistan rolls out the red carpet. We treat any well-meaning comment from international leaders about their willingness to facilitate a reduction of tension between the countries with almost paranoid hostility. We behave as if we are doing a great favour to Pakistan by even thinking of talking to them. Trust Indian diplomacy to transform a great opportunity to mobilise world opinion in its favour into a sympathy wave for Pakistan.

T.N. Menon,

Secunderabad
