Demand dangerous: Pawar
By Mahesh Vijapurkar

MUMBAI, JAN. 27. Only the supporters of the Babri Masjid - which was wrongfully demolished - had the right to demand the construction of a structure in Ayodhya, the Nationalist Congress Party president, Sharad Pawar, said here today. It was not appropriate for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad or any others involved in the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992 to make such a demand, he said when talking to correspondents here today.

``These people had taken the law in their hands,'' he pointed out.

Any demand like the one being made by the VHP, Mr. Pawar said, would be dangerous and mistimed as it would divide the society and the country which was already trying to tackle terrorism unitedly.

UNI reports:

Mr. Pawar said the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, must act on what he says. ``What Gen. Musharraf has said has to be implemented.'' On the timing of the test-firing of the new Agni missile, he said, ``it was planned in advance. We have tested it as a deterrence.''
