Second GM norm for Ganguly;
Gokhale becomes IM
NAGPUR, JAN. 27. In pursuit of making the National squad for the Olympiad, Surya Sekhar Ganguly and Chandrashekhar Gokhale touched personal landmarks in the on-going National `A' chess championship here on Sunday.
Ganguly gained his second 11-game Grandmaster's norm while Chandrashekhar Gokhale became the country's 29th International Master.
Before today, Tamil Nadu's P. Konguvel was the only player to attain a GM-norm in the National championship. But Ganguly's feat was one better than Konguvel's last year's effort of 10-game norm. The 27-year-old Gokhale, from Indian Airlines, also made history of sorts by becoming the first player to clinch the International Master title-norm in the championship. - Our Special Correspondent
