By C. Raja Mohan

NEW DELHI, JAN. 28. A senior member of the Indian Foreign Service, Harsh Kumar Bhasin is tipped to be the next Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan.

The current envoy, Vijay Nambiar, is slated to take over as India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in the middle of the year. He will replace Kamalesh Sharma who retires in June. Mr. Nambiar, now on recall from Islamabad, is likely to return to Pakistan if the de-escalation of the diplomatic tension between the two countries begins in the coming weeks.

Mr. Bhasin is from the 1968 batch of the Foreign Service and has served as India's High Commissioner to South Africa and as Consul-General in New York. He is currently on sabbatical, teaching at a college in New York.

In other moves, Ronnen Sen, the Indian Ambassador to Germany is expected to take over as the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. The present envoy to London, Nareshwar Dayal, retires in March. T.C.A. Rangachari, currently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs will take charge in Berlin.
