Encounter tale funny: Pak.
By B. Muralidhar Reddy
ISLAMABAD, JAN. 28. Pakistan has described as ``ridiculous and funny'' the claim by Indian officials that two Pakistanis, suspected to be involved in the January 22 Kolkota attack on the American Center, have been killed in an encounter.
In a sharp reaction to the statement by the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani, the Pakistan Information Secretary, Anwar Mehmud, said, ``it is joke and mockery''.
He told official APP news agency here tonight that Indian should come out of its obsession with the ISI and stop accusing Pakistan for everything that happened or did not happen in India.
``To make outlandish claims could satisfy preconceived designs of someone but no one with wisdom is prepared to believe in them. The whole thing smacks of melodrama of the first order and cooked up matter,'' he said.
The Press Secretary to Pakistan President, Rashid Quereshi, maintained here today that the United States had refuted the Indian charges about involvement of Pakistan in the incident.
``This is an old record of India. Every time it makes false statements. Even its Home Minister said the Pakistan backed militants or the Pakistani intelligence agency was involved in the incident, which took place at Kolkata. But within 24 hours the Director of FBI said that it was absolutely false,'' he said.
