Possible terror attacks

MUMBAI, JAN. 29. The city was put on a high alert following a tip-off by the CBI and the Intelligence Bureau of a possible terror attacks, the Mumbai Police Commissioner, M.N. Singh, said today.

Talking to reporters after addressing a seminar here Mr. Singh indicated that police had received a tip-off from the CBI and the Intelligence Bureau about anti-nationals planning to unleash violence in the city.

``We are in constant touch with the CBI and the IB, Mr. Singh said, refusing to elaborate on the information received about the possible terrorist attacks.

``All I can say is that police and citizens would have to remain on a `constant alert' following plans by militant outfits to create law and order problems in the metropolis,'' he said.

``We have foiled such attempts in the past and hopefully, continue to do so in the future,'' he said after addressing the seminar on `Role of Media in Promoting Communal Harmony'.
