`Temple any time after March 12'
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN 29. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has emphasised that it has no plans to further delay the start of construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya now scheduled to begin ``any time after March 12''.

Its governing council began a two-day conclave here today to discuss all issues arising out of the Marg Darshak Mandal Samiti's ultimatum on January 27 and the lack of any firm assurance from the Prime Minister to the VHP-led delegation of `sants' which met him on that day on the handing over of the acquired land in Ayodhya to the VHP-controlled Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.

The VHP general secretary, Praveen Togadia, however, affirmed that there would be no delay in the start of the construction irrespective of any Government decision. This had also been made clear at the Ram Lila grounds rally by the `sants' on January 27.

The problem before the VHP is that the Prime Minister is reported to have told them that this was the most inopportune time to start the temple agitation when the Government was committed to fighting terrorism spawned by Islamic fundamentalism.

But the VHP, which has been coaxing and cajoling the `sants' into joining the temple agitation, has been telling them that the Prime Minister will certainly deliver the acquired land to the VHP.

The dilemma is that the VHP is not in a position to go back on its word without annoying the `dharmacharyas' and the `sadhus' and `sants'.

The governing council is expected to adopt resolutions on the temple issue, the immigration of Hindu minorities from Bangladesh and their treatment there, cow protection and the fight against terrorism.
