Petrol, diesel to be cheaper

NEW DELHI, JAN. 29. The prices of petrol and diesel are set to fall on April 1 when the complex system of administered prices for the petroleum sector is finally dismantled. The first step will be taken in the 2002-2003 budget when the Rs. 9,000 crore subsidies for kerosene and LPG are transferred to the general exchequer and enabling provisions are introduced for changing tariffs on petroleum products.
