By Shujaat Bukhari
JAMMU, FEB. 1. Three civilians were killed and three injured in unprecedented firing by Pakistan forces in Poonch, Rajouri, Lam, Nowshera and Samba sectors during the past 24 hours. A number of houses were also damaged.
Hundreds of shells landed in heavily-populated areas of Digwar, Sokar, Ajot, Taslian, Banwat, Dokri, Jhulas, Kunian, Mangnar and Kasba.
The IGP (Jammu zone), Pitamber Lal Gupta, confirmed that three civilians, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed and two others injured in Ajot village near the Line of Control.
Indian troops retaliated and a number of enemy bunkers were reported to have been de stroyed. The situation in Poonch town and adjoining areas is stated to be tense.
Though a report said some shells had landed in the town, the police denied it. (An Army spokesman also denied it, PTI reported from New Delhi.)
