Great Eastern Shipping Company reported a total income of Rs. 293.67 crores in the third quarter ended December 31, 2001 against Rs. 280.37 crores in the corresponding period last year. The net profit, after current tax, stood at Rs. 73.52 crores against Rs. 41.54 crores. Interest charges claimed Rs. 11.49 crores (Rs. 17.55 crores).

During the third quarter, the operating profit of the shipping division stood at Rs. 57.57 crores registering a 11.7 per cent growth on a year-on-year basis. The revenues for the offshore division stood at Rs. 66.61 crores, registering a 21 per cent growth on a year-on-year basis.

In the nine months ended December 31, 2001 total income has risen to Rs. 937.90 crores from Rs. 800.14 crores. The net profit, after current tax, was higher by 56.5 per cent at Rs. 192.24 crores against Rs. 122.81 crores.
