Speaker faces inquiry

DEHRA DUN, FEB. 3. The Election Commission has ordered an inquiry on a Congress complaint that the Uttaranchal Speaker, Prakash Pant, had allegedly misused his discretionary funds to lure voters of his constituency, sources said here today.

The Congress had alleged that Mr. Pant under the garb of giving assistance to the downtrodden had so far disbursed Rs. 2 lakhs through money orders during the past two months. The CEO yesterday sought details within three days from the Vidhan Sabha secretariat on the issue. Mr. Pant is contesting from Pithoragarh Assembly constituency on BJP ticket.
