SLP put off
By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. The Supreme Court today adjourned by two weeks a Special Leave Petition from R. S. Bharathi, advocate, against the verdict of the Madras High Court acquitting the AIADMK general secretary, Jayalalithaa, and three others of corruption charges in the `Pleasant Stay Hotel' case.

The Bench, comprising Justices M. B. Shah and B. N. Agrawal, directed the court registry to find out if any appeal had been filed by Tamil Nadu against the High Court verdict in the case.

Earlier, Shanti Bhushan, senior counsel, appearing for the petitioner submitted that his client filed the SLP as the State, now being ruled by the AIADMK Government, might not prefer an appeal against the High Court's verdict.

The Supreme Court had already issued notice to Ms. Jayalalithaa, the Tamil Nadu Government and others on the SLP filed in the ``Tansi land deal case'' by Mr. Bharathi. Ms. Jayalalithaa was acquitted in this case also.
