Cong. criticised for rejecting PM appeal
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, FEB. 5. The Bharatiya Janata Party today criticised the Congress for rejecting the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's appeal not to raise issues such as the Kargil soldiers' coffin scandal, alleging that the party had shown no decency in this.
While accepting, in response to questions, that the coffin scandal was first highlighted by the CAG report, the BJP general secretary, Sunil Shastri, said that at a time when the country ought to put up a united fight against terrorism, when our Army was deployed on the borders, it was improper for the Congress to raise issues which could demoralise the soldiers. It was ``debased politics'' which had made the party reject the Prime Minister's appeal.
Asked what the BJP and the then Opposition parties were doing when they raised the Bofors issue, Mr. Shastri rejected the comparison even while admitting that when Parliament met it should decide what kind of inquiry, if any, ought to be instituted.
