BSNL to launch `Always on Internet' scheme
By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, FEB. 5. The Bangalore Telecom District of the BSNL is all set to launch its ``Always on Internet'' scheme, a direct 24-hour Internet access facility. The facility will enable them to use the Internet without paying for telephone holding time at local rates every three minutes.

This was announced by the Principal General Manager of the BSNL, BGTD, B.R. Baliga, at press conference here on Tuesday.

He said the charge for the equipment was likely to be a maximum of Rs. 900 per month. The scheme would become operational in a couple of days, he added.

He said the BGTD was planning to launch a website, ``billjunction.com'' for bill payment. The website would work as an Internet banking arm of the ICICI and help customers ``view and pay'' their telephone bills online. The service would be available for all BGTD customers who had a bank account in a scheduled bank, including cooperative banks, he added.

Explaining the BSNL's ISDN services, he said the initial deposit had been reduced from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 5,000. Registration was not required. The monthly rentals for the ISDN facility had been reduced from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 500. Besides, a free ISDN basic rate access connection would be given without registration, he added.
