Lucky Sriram makes the most of trying conditions
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 8. With sighting the ball being a challenge all through the day, Tamil Nadu made an attempt to make a match of it, riding on the shoulders of a plucky innings by S. Sriram here on Friday.

Sriram's century and a half-century by J. Madanagopal enabled Tamil Nadu finish the day at 204 for two, 57 runs ahead of Railways and just a day's play remaining in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal at the Karnail Singh Stadium.

Resuming at 419 for nine, Railways added just four more when Sanjay Bangar was bowled off a ball which shot through. The first session was marred by poor light. A total of 74 minutes were lost to bad light.

Sriram was let off thrice by wicketkeeper Sudhir Wankhede, who also failed to stump Madanagopal off K. Parida. The Railways wicketkeeper struggled to sight the ball all along as play continued in testing conditions - cold and windy.

S. Ramesh failed for the second time in the match but Sriram made the most of the chances he earned. He maintained the pace of his innings with some well-timed strokes while Madanagopal impressed with his positive attitude. Madanagopal's innings contained five fours and one six while Sriram, in his unbeaten essay off 171 balls, has hit 13 fours thus far.
