Pakistan in command
By Dicky Rutnagur

SHARJAH, FEB. 8. Pakistan ran into very isolated pockets of resistance on the second day as it strengthened its grip over the West Indies in the second Test. Confronting it with an imposing total of 472, Pakistan, in the 45 overs that remained to be bowled in the day, captured four wickets while West Indies eked out 164 runs, leaving it another 109 to score to avoid the follow on.

It is no easy task for, with Sherwin Campbell and Marlon Samuels injured, West Indies is a batsman short in this match. Its plight would have been more desperate had skipper Carl Hooper, who remained unbeaten with 40 after 86 minutes at the wicket, not been dropped twice at slip while he moved from five to 21.

The highlight of West Indies stuttering reply was a stylish and facile 65, off 115 balls, by the 23-year-old opening batsman from Trinidad. Despite having a high backlift, he was hardly ever hurried in playing Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar and collected most of his ten fours with an array of glorious on-side shots.

In the morning, Pakistan, after running the gauntlet of the second new ball, added 128 to its overnight total off 37 overs, thanks mainly to all-rounder Abdur Razzak, who remained unbeaten with 64 off 120 balls, with five fours.
