Anjali takes gold
NEW DELHI, FEB. 8. Olympian Anjali Vedpathak regained her golden touch, as she shot a 500.2 to beat a tough field on the first day of the Den Haag shooting competition in Holland.
The 32-year-old Anjali had rounds of 99, 99, 100, 100 in the preliminary phase and followed up with a 9.9, 9.8, 10.4, 10.9, 10.1, 10.4, 10.5, 10.0, 9.9, 10.3 to beat Kim-Sun Hwa of Korea by 0.3 points for the gold in the air rifle event.
The other three Indian women were, however, unable to rise to such exacting standards. Suma Shirur, who had shot a gold in the last competition in Denmark, and Poornima Gawhane finished joint tenth with 393 points, while Anuja Tere was joint 15th with a 391.
