Bengal CM meets Advani
By Our Special Correspondent

The West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee (left), with the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani, in New Delhi on Saturday.

NEW DELHI, FEB. 9. The West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, met the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani, this morning and the two were believed to have discussed the law and order situation in the State. The discussion has obviously been prompted by the recent terrorist attack at the American Center in Kolkata.

After the 40-minute meeting, the Chief Minister told newspersons that he had discussed various aspects of the law and order situation and ``in particular, the terrorist activities in some parts of our State.''

However, it could not be ascertained whether the issue of some ``madrasas'' as possible source of terrorist activities came up for discussion. The Chief Minister was recently reported to have observed that some of the unregistered ``madrasas'' were indulging in unlawful activities.

The statement invited criticism both from his party colleagues and from the Muslim community. Among the officials present at the Chief Minister-Home Minister interaction were the Union Home Secretary, Kamal Pande, the State's Chief Secretary, Sourin Roy and the State's Home Secretary, A.K. Deb.
