Muttawakil gives up

WASHINGTON, FEB. 9. The former Taliban Foreign Minister, Mullah Abdul Wakil Muttawakil, turned himself in voluntarily to the U.S. military in Kandahar, a Pentagon spokesman said. He was one of the closest aides of the Taliban supreme leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, whose whereabouts are unknown.

``The former Taliban Foreign Minister turned himself in voluntarily and is now under U.S. control at the detention centre in Kandahar,'' Lt. Col. Ken McClellan said. U.S. authorities were questioning the former official, CBS News reported.
