MUMBAI, FEB. 10. Police firing, booth capturing and cancellation of polling today marred elections to civic bodies in Maharashtra which witnessed a moderate turnout of 55 per cent, but the Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, could not cast his vote as his name did not figure in the voters' list.

Police fired in the air to disperse a mob in Solapur in southern Maharashtra, the State Election Commission officials told reporters here. Stray incidents of booth capturing were reported from some areas, including a ward in Nagpur.
