Timken India, a subsidiary of Timken of the U.S., an exclusive manufacturer of tapered roller bearings, is planning to introduce premium quality automotive products under Trukon brand with a view to offer a complete package of hub solution to the automotive segment. At a dealers meet held here recently, J.P. Sinha, Assistant Director (sales and marketing), Timken India, said customer needs were guiding the company to develop these products. He said the company was the original equipment supplier of tapered roller bearings to national and international commercial vehicle and tractor manufacturers and the focussed attention to manufacture of tapered roller bearings enabled it to establish global market leadership.
The company, which was formerly a joint venture with Tata group, has become a subsidiary of Timken of the U.S. following the divestment of Tata's stake in this venture. Timken of the U.S. has 80 per cent stake in the equity capital of Rs. 63.73 crores while the balance is held by public. According to Mr. Sinha, the steel required for the bearings were supplied by Tata Steel and Tatas continued to have representation on the board of directors.
