I-T evasion case: HC directive to Centre

NEW DELHI, FEB. 11. The Delhi High Court today directed the Centre to file by April 3 a synopsis on legal aspects of a case relating to alleged income tax violations by 18 politicians and former officials, including the Home Minister, L.K. Advani, and the Union Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha.

The court order came in the wake of the Centre questioning the maintainability of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a journalist, Om Prakash Tapas, seeking a probe into the alleged I-T violations. A division bench comprising Justice Devinder Gupta and Justice Shameet Mukerjee ordered that all the previous status reports and records be produced on the next hearing of the case.
