Sir, Elections are being held in four States this month. All political parties during their campaigns have focussed on caste. The voters, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, do not seem to have learnt from past experience. The politics here has been caste-based because of which all other issues, however vital, have been given secondary importance. In the past, people blindly voted for candidates belonging to their caste irrespective of their capacity or nexus with criminals. The scenario is likely to be repeated in the coming elections. Political parties, which are responsible for this situation, have created divisions among upper caste and lower caste voters. Voters must realise this and ensure that they vote on the basis of merit.
