'Musharraf talked only of possible test'
By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD, FEB. 14. Pakistan today maintained that its President, Pervez Musharraf, had only talked of reports of a possible new nuclear test by India and not made any definite statement on the subject.

The Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, Aziz Ahmed Khan, said at a news conference here that Gen. Musharraf had desired that the reports be investigated. ``We had not heard either from our mission in Delhi nor do we have any independent confirmation of the reports,'' he said in response to a specific question.

On India's rejection of the proposal for third-party mediation on Kashmir, Mr. Khan said Pakistan's position on the subject was consistent.
