Letters to the Editor
Sir, I disagree with Raghav Venkatesh's letter `America Welcome' (Feb. 14). Facts prove that the U.S. has never really been a loyal and sincere friend. In fact, its recent actions have been arbitrary and intolerant.True, its role has changed in the post-Cold War period but the change has not been positive with regard to the developing world. As a result, we cannot afford to be complacent with America's presence in our neighbourhood. As regards India being a natural ally of the U.S. (because of its democratic principles), it is well known that the U.S. has been a better friend to many autocratic regimes such as Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is sincere and loyal only to its hegemonic interests, which is not beneficial to other countries.
