Letters to the Editor
Sir, In her article, `Vedic-Indus debate: save Indian civilisation today' (Feb. 5), Clarence Maloney has stated that the Indus language was Dravidian-like. In support, she has referred to the Brahui people, over a million, who live in east-central Baluchistan and whose language is Dravidian at its core. In support, she also mentions place names of Dravidian origin in Pakistan. However, her statement that Marathi is Dravidian in origin appears ill-founded inasmuch as Marathi is a highly-Sanskritised language and has no resemblance at all to any Dravidian language.
