Letters to the Editor
Sir, The article `U.S. and Indo-Pak relations' (Feb. 14) is timely in the context of resolving the differential outlook on the part the two putative nations. Pervez Musharraf's address to the nation is undoubtedly a historic departure from the past. But the self-imposed Kashmir factor has to yield room still. The impasse can be broken only if the ruling echelons of both nations have the will to summon the qualities of statesmanship. Despite the oft-repeated talk of bilateralism, a qualitative change as regards the Kashmir issue can materialise by acknowledging the fact that the U.S. be allowed to bring about a change without much loss of face to Pakistan. Once this materialises, an atmosphere of mutual trust and harmony is bound to follow. Syed Gowher Ali, Chennai
