By Our Correspondent

JAMMU, FEB. 17. Eight Hindus, including four women and two children, were massacred by unidentified militants on Saturday night in Bamal Narala area of Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri district of Jammu region.

Police sources told The Hindu that militants swooped on the houses of Balak Ram, Mathu Ram and Suram Chand and sprayed bullets killing eight persons. Seven persons also have been injured.

A few hours before the massacre, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Omar Abdullah, visited an area some kilometres away from the site of massacre and addressed a public rally to canvas support for his party for the byelection to the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency.
