NICD findings awaited

By Rajesh Ahuja

CHANDIGARH, FEB. 18. Despite the toll going up to two at the Post-Graduate Institute (PGI) here, the Chandigarh Administration and the PGI authorities sought to allay fears of outbreak of plague epidemic.

The PGI Director, S.K.Sharma, said today that though the mystery disease had clinically many symptoms similar to plague, it was too early to pronounce it as such. The authorities obviously are waiting for the findings of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) which are expected by Tuesday.

A few cases of suspected plague from Himachal Pradesh were admitted in the PGI. It is learnt that the PGI authorities were working along with a team of experts to make a final assessment about the `mystery' disease.
