Addressing a press conference, the State Chief Electoral Officer, Promod Jain, said the Commission would ensure the smooth conduct of the byelection. "We have identified hypersensitive polling stations and adequate security arrangements have been provided. Out of the 1647 polling booths in the constituency, 347 have been declared hypersensitive. Three election observers have been appointed for the election,'' he added. Dispelling Opposition parties' fears about the prospects of mass rigging by the ruling party, he said, "We are keeping a close watch and anything which goes against the law will be sternly dealt with.'' On the use of electronic voting machines, he said, "The resolution is pending before the Legislature. '' ``If everything goes well, electronic voting machines will be used in the coming Assembly elections.''
