Counting today

NEW DELHI, FEB. 23. Counting of ballots for Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal and Manipur will be taken up tomorrow amidst tight security.

The process will begin at 8 a.m. and all results are expected to be out by night.

The results will decide the electoral fortunes of 2500 candidates, including those of the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttaranchal, the former Chief Ministers, Mayawati and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, and the longest-serving Chief Minister of Manipur, Rishang Keishing.

Counting of votes will also be taken up for byelections in seven Lok Sabha and six Assembly constituencies to decide the electoral fortunes of the AIADMK chief, Jayalalithaa, the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, Madhavrao Scindia's son, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Phoolan Devi's husband, Umed Singh.
